what types of laptop bags are easier to use on a college campus?
I’m not sure if i should get a messenger bag (or sling/shoulder bag) or a tote, like a purse.
i like the tote look better but i think the messenger bag would be more practical.
If you only have a few books to carry, the messenger bag is the way to go. Make sure it has a special slot for your laptop with padding to protect it. If you have a lot of books, and try to cram them all into a messanger back, you risk cracking the laptop.
If you have a bunch of books, get a back pack with a seperate slot for your laptop.
Don’t go with the tote bag. My wife insisted on carrying her laptop in her tote bag, and her laptop got distroyed. It got all scratched up, gouges on it, the button that releases the pcmcia cards broke off, and one time I had to take it apart to get a dime out of it. If you insist on using the totebag, they do make padded sleves that you can put your laptop in that will help protect, but it won’t protect it nearly as well as a bag designed to carry a laptop.

The messenger bag would be a *lot* more practical, and you can get some that are really cute if you look for them. In fact, don’t limit yourself just to ones specifically designed for computers – you can always just throw your laptop in with your books, if you don’t mind that, and opening up your choices beyond just laptop bags might give you more options re: nice bags.
For the ultimate in practicality, a backpack is really good, and lots of students on campus will have backpacks. The nice thing about a backpack is that it distributes the weight across both shoulders, instead of just relying on one. It’s more comfortable to use than a messenger bag.
But if you prefer the look of a messenger bag, go with it.
But a cute tote? Not practical.

I think shoulder bag with thick material is best bag for the laptop to use on a college campus.
